vUSAF ATC Update
Submitted by ARogers@vusaf.org on April 20, 2009, 10:24 am EDT

As many are aware there is a continual push within our organization to develop an ATC program. While there haven't been many developments over the last several months, I would like to take this opportunity to update you all about the progress of the ATC Program. Currently we have two active facilities, Mountain Home and Nellis, that are fully compatible with our training curriculum and have updated LOAs in place that allow us to control any position that we are considering creating; from JSTARS, coordinating strikes, GCI/AWACs, controlling fighter activities, C2, overall operation command, and even DZ controllers, coordinating the cargo into our drop and landing zones.
At the time of this update we currently have two programs active and are actively developing the third. TCC and RCO, the staple tower and approach positions are available for all members of the vUSAF that have attained the rating of S3 or higher on VATSIM. The curriculum and study guide for AWACS/GCI is currently being written and is in the final stages, this document should be complete in the next few weeks. Once this large task has been completed the focus will shift to
expanding our operational bases again, and LOAs will be drafted and sent to numerous facilities for their approval, if any commands have requests they should be sent to AF/A6 promptly so they can be considered and included in the drafts sent to each facility.

The long term goal for this quarter is to expand the operational bases from two to five and to develop the JSTARS and AWACS roles.

As always we are looking for controllers, controlling for the vUSAF no longer requires large amounts of time sitting at unoccupied fields, instead participate in the numerous activities and operations we conduct every year, If you are interested please contact AF/A6.
